"Natures differ, and needs with them, Hence the wise men of old
did not lay down
One measure for all".
- Chuang Tse (4th century BC)

Madhuri graduated from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (United Kingdom) in 2003. Her practice blends the wisdom of 5 Element Acupuncture with Traditional Chinese Medicine to support each patient's unique needs..
Before practicing acupuncture, Madhuri spent 20 years working in the UK’s National Health Service as a Registered General Nurse in Surgery. This extended knowledge gives her an understanding of health conditions and their underlying nature. She brings this knowledge into her practice, offering treatment that is grounded, thoughtful, and guided by genuine care and compassion. She is a general practitioner of acupuncture, treating a wide variety of conditions.
Madhuri has been practicing in Maryland since 2010, and is licensed by the Maryland Board of Acupuncture and Maryland Department of Health.

My path to acupuncture began with a quiet realisation: healing is not only about fixing what is broken, but about listening to the body’s deeper wisdom. I was drawn to the way acupuncture views health as a balance— between mind and body, effort and rest, inner and outer life
As I learned more about Chinese medicine, I became inspired by its holistic approach and its respect for the individual story behind every symptom. Acupuncture offered a way to support healing that felt both ancient and deeply relevant, combining careful observation, intuition, and compassion. What started as curiosity grew into commitment—a desire to help others reconnect with their own capacity for balance and well-being.
Today, acupuncture represents for me not just a profession, but a lifelong practice of learning, presence, and service.

Madhuri is a passionate nature photographer. When she and her husband first met, he gifted her a proper camera and introduced her to the world of nature photography. What began as a thoughtful gesture soon became a shared passion, and together they enjoy exploring local natural areas and photographing wildlife.
Her work has been published in Argia, the journal of the Dragonfly Society of the Americas, as well as in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources magazine. Her photographs have also been featured in MDNR educational articles, contributing to environmental education and awareness. Madhuri also enjoys painting and creating natural, pesticide-free habitats in her garden. She nurtures a remarkable diversity of wildlife, welcoming everything from visiting opossums, foxes, and raccoons, to an extraordinary range of insects and pollinators—including 23 varieties of butterflies in a single year. Her garden has also supported swallowtail caterpillars, hummingbird moths, praying mantises, many species of katydids, and even Joro spiders, among the first documented in Maryland.
Madhuri has a special love for dragonflies and damselflies, and together she and her husband have observed two species—a damselfly and a dragonfly—rare for the Howard County region, generating considerable excitement among local entomologists.
Beyond her love of nature, Madhuri enjoys learning about different cultures, visiting art exhibitions, and going to the theatre. She also enjoys cooking, especially Korean cuisine, and relaxing with a favourite K-drama or British detective show.

Madhuri Shenker is amazing! Her tiny needles can dissolve tension, loosen sore joints, help arthritic joints. She’s a lovely person who listens to your problems and creates a peaceful environment while you get treatment. Highly recommend!
Ms. Shenker has treated me successfully several times over the years for a variety of issues from back pain to foot pain, and once even for tooth pain ( it worked!). The techniques she has used on me include acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, and gua sha. I’ve always been happy with the results!
