Acupuncture is one of the primary modalities and a core component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is a sophisticated, holistic system of medicine that focuses on restoring balance within the body by regulating Qi.
Qi—often described as “life force,” “energy,” or “vital force”—flows through the body along specific pathways known as meridians. These pathways can be thought of as rivers of energy, with acupuncture points acting as pools where this energy can be accessed and influenced. By gently inserting fine, sterile needles into these points, Qi is stimulated and guided back into balance, removing blockages caused by illness, pain, and other factors. In modern terms, Qi can be understood as circulation, cellular function, or metabolic efficiency, the transformation and transportation of nutrients and energy within the body.
When balance is restored, the body is better able to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and ease physical and emotional stress. This process encourages deep relaxation and supports overall health and well-being.
Acupuncture can be highly effective in managing pain and treating a wide range of conditions, including gynaecological conditions, digestive issues, mental health concerns, among others.

Moxa, or moxibustion, is a traditional therapy in Chinese medicine that is often used alongside acupuncture. It involves the use of dried, aged mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) leaves, which are processed into a soft pulp and formed into sticks or cones. These are applied directly or indirectly to the skin to gently warm and stimulate acupuncture points. The warmth from moxibustion helps boost circulation, reduce inflammation, warm the body, dispel cold, and strengthen overall vitality. It is especially valued for its deeply nourishing and restorative effects.
In modern practice, smokeless forms of moxibustion are also available, including cones, sticks, balms, tinctures, and sprays. These options allow the benefits of moxa to be applied comfortably and safely to acupuncture points while accommodating different sensitivities and environments.

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique often used alongside acupuncture. It involves placing specialised cups on the skin to create gentle suction, which helps improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain.
This therapy supports the body’s natural healing process and is commonly used to ease muscle tension and promote overall well-being.

Guasha therapy is an important hands-on treatment that has been used throughout Asia for centuries. Also known as “coining,” “spooning,” or “scraping,” it is an instrument-assisted technique designed to encourage the free flow of circulation within the body.
The term Gua means “to scrape” or “press-stroke,” while Sha refers to stagnation or impaired circulation—often experienced as muscle tightness, pain, or stiffness.
Sha also describes the temporary redness or small raised red marks that may appear on the skin following treatment. This response is a normal and therapeutic part of the process and typically fades within a few days, as pain and inflammation are relieved or significantly reduced.
Gua Sha offers many benefits, including improved circulation, reduced muscle tension, decreased inflammation, and enhanced healing throughout the body.
For all ages, but especially in paediatric acupuncture, there are gentle, non-invasive options that provide effective treatment without needles. These include:
Uses low-intensity, non-thermal laser to stimulate acupuncture points, delivering small packets of energy. This method is ideal for needle-phobic children—and even adults—offering a safe and painless alternative to traditional needling.
A gentle, non-invasive Japanese paediatric acupuncture technique. Specialised smooth metal tools are used to brush, tap, and press along the child’s meridians and acupuncture points. Quick, light movements help balance Qi and shift any energetic blocks, making the session stress-free and highly effective for young children.
A light, therapeutic massage designed for infants, toddlers, and young children. Using gentle hand techniques such as pushing and kneading along acupuncture points and meridians, this method helps balance Qi, relieve discomfort, and support overall well-being. Practitioners can also teach parents how to safely continue these techniques at home, extending the benefits of treatment.
Madhuri Shenker was recommended to me by my yoga instructor to help me treat and manage chronic migraines. Madhuri went above and beyond helping me, and on my worst days she even treated me at my home. I can't say enough good things about this practitioner, she is magical, she knows her craft, and she is a terrific human being. I am very lucky to know her. Thank you for everything that you've done for me!
My first ever accupuncture treatment was administered by Mad. I can't imagine anyone else being more caring or more dedicated to helping and healing their patients than Mad. Mad clearly and soothingly explained her treatment every step of the way. Mad is absolutely wonderful.
I admit being the most skeptical person when it comes acupuncture but Mrs. Shenker made a believer out of me . She is great and the treatment is working for me
